Electronics - Computer Servicing Technology
Program Description
Designed to prepare the student for employment in industry by providing an extensive background in electronics theory with laboratory application. Employment would be at the level of entry-level technologist/technician or engineering assistant. A Certificate of Achievement can be obtained by completing the 40-unit major. The Associate in Science Degree can be obtained by completing a total of 61 units, including the 40-unit major and the general education requirements. This program may be completed by taking Extended Day classes but will require more semesters to complete than the day program.
Additional Program Information
The Television Servicing Technology program is designed to provide you with the job entry-level skills needed for employment in the television industry and to upgrade the skills of service people in commercial television repair and maintenance. The Television Servicing Technology program is offered in the evening and normally consists of eight semesters of study. Those who enroll in the program should display an aptitude and interest in mathematics and electronics. Good eyesight and color vision are also helpful.
You will gain knowledge of the science and mathematics of vacuum tubes, semiconductors, transistors, and integrated circuits. You will gain experience in testing, installing, maintaining, and repairing television receiving equipment including VCRs. The program concentrates on the television receiver with practical application in the setup, alignment, adjustment and troubleshooting of black-and-white and color television receivers. You will become proficient in the use of voltmeters, oscilloscopes, tube tests, transistors checkers, and special alignment equipment.
Assessment
Candidates for the Television Servicing Technology program must present a satisfactory combined score of two tests-the Algebra Readiness Assessment Test and the reading section of the English Assessment Test. Consult the current class schedule for test dates and times.
Opportunities
All communities have television servicing shops providing job opportunities throughout the country. Locally, there are numerous openings in television repair shops.
